Internet DS-3 / T3

A DS-3 is a channelized circuit, the equivalent of 28 T1’s. Maximum bandwidth available is from 3Mbps to 45Mbps, and is delivered on a copper trunk. DS-3s are also available and provisioned over fiber loops, expecially longer distances between termination points is required.

OCx regularly provisions DS-3 circuits when bonded T1’s do not provide sufficient bandwidth, depending on the number and bandwidth of remote sites being connected to the host, and the applications running over the network.

Since it is common for organizations to overestimate bandwidth needs at the host site, OCx evaluates applications and actual traffic patterns to determine if the additional investment is warranted. DS3’s, however, have dropped in price dramatically over the past 5 years.
